    It works fine. I’m happy.

Added USB 3 to my old a$$ Sony Viao laptop. Now it makes a great Plex server because there’s no bottleneck on my HDDs (Once I upgraded them to USB 3.0 too!)

Mac users do not fret! Here’s a secret: While J-Tech doesn’t have an OSX driver for this unit, the CalDigit OSX USB 3.0 driver works: http://www.caldigit.com/KB/index.asp?KBID=108&viewlocale=1 It is meant for CalDigit products, so it is unsupported, but if like me, you forgot to check compatibility, then you’re in luck. NOTE: I just plugged this in, and moved a couple of small files back and forth from my mac on an external USB 3.0 drive, so I can’t verify speed, but it at least works for reading and writing.

I used this to upgrade my laptop to USB 3.0 for the purposes of getting better performance using a USB 3.0 flash drive. I am very very happy with the results. I posted the results of my scandisk extreme 64GB (245MB/s read) flash drive under that product with crystal bench marks. The short version, this device with the stated flash drive gave me performance that came close to my SSD, which is pretty unbelievable. For people having issues with the power cord I cannot speak to that because all I need it for is the flash drive and for that purpose it works great. [update 8/8/14] I did some more testing with actual files and programs reading files (vs crystal) and I found that my read performance was actually closer to 52MB/s – 55MB/s (vs the 124MB that crystal was showing). I do not know why there is such a big difference between crystal benchmarks and real world results. You would think the benchmark would be setup to reflect real world results otherwise what’s the point. I’m still very happy with the performance since my laptop is so old. Before I bought this item I said if it gives me 50MB/s I will be delighted… and I am.

This thing really works well. I use it with a USB3 video capture device and had no problems. I do recommend it.
